Bertuzzi received a match penalty and an automatic indefinite suspension, which the NHL extended through the remainder of the 2003–04 season and playoffs. The International Ice Hockey Federation honored the suspension, keeping him out of professional and international hockey during the 2004–05 lockout. On March 8, 2004, Vancouver and Colorado met again in a fight-filled game in Vancouver. Moore had already fought Matt Cooke in the first period, and the Avalanche built an 8–2 lead. Shortly before the midpoint of the third period, Todd Bertuzzi entered the ice and attempted to provoke Moore into a fight. When Moore would not engage, Bertuzzi skated behind him, grabbed the back of his jersey, and punched him in the back of the head. Steve Moore pursued a lengthy civil battle against Bertuzzi, the Canucks, team owner Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment, and several Vancouver officials and players. A Colorado lawsuit was dismissed in 2005 on jurisdictional grounds, after which Moore filed in Ontario seeking compensation for lost income, medical suffering, and the psychological distress experienced by his parents. The claim expanded over time, reaching CAD$68 million in 2014. The case became especially contentious when Bertuzzi testified that coach Marc Crawford had instructed players at intermission that Moore needed to 'pay the price' for the Näslund hit. The Zhuhai Stadium Exercise-Track Massacre: A Deliberate SUV Attack Hidden Behind Censorship

On the evening of 11 November 2024, 62-year-old Fan Weiqiu drove a Beijing BJ40 SUV—purchased on a loan only days earlier—onto the exercise track at Zhuhai Sports Center in Guangdong, China. At roughly 19:48, while about 300 people were exercising, he reportedly drove at 70–80 km/h and made a loop around the track, striking groups of walkers and fitness participants. Many victims were middle-aged or elderly members of organized exercise groups, whose music may have drowned out the first sounds of the vehicle. Cars were not supposed to enter the track, which was protected by fences and stone bollards, suggesting that Fan found or forced access from another side of the stadium complex. The final toll was revised to 38 dead and 48 injured, making it the deadliest attack in China since the May 2014 Ürümqi attack. Fan was found in the vehicle with serious knife wounds to his neck and chest after attempting suicide, was arrested and hospitalized, and later told investigators he had been motivated by anger over the financial settlement from his divorce. The attack took place just one day before Zhuhai was scheduled to host the major China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition, adding to the authorities' security concerns. The Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court sentenced Fan to death on 27 December 2024, and he was executed on 20 January 2025. The aftermath became a second controversy: Chinese authorities delayed detailed reporting for roughly 24 hours, censored death-toll searches and videos, restricted journalists from hospitals, and removed flowers and other offerings from a makeshift memorial. Authorities justified the information controls in terms of preventing panic and copycat attacks, but the silence—especially so close to the airshow—triggered anger and suspicion online.
