Bertuzzi received a match penalty and an automatic indefinite suspension, which the NHL extended through the remainder of the 2003–04 season and playoffs. On March 8, 2004, Vancouver and Colorado met again in a fight-filled game in Vancouver. Moore had already fought Matt Cooke in the first period, and the Avalanche built an 8–2 lead. Shortly before the midpoint of the third period, Todd Bertuzzi entered the ice and attempted to provoke Moore into a fight. Steve Moore pursued a lengthy civil battle against Bertuzzi, the Canucks, team owner Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment, and several Vancouver officials and players. A Colorado lawsuit was dismissed in 2005 on jurisdictional grounds, after which Moore filed in Ontario seeking compensation for lost income, medical suffering, and the psychological distress experienced by his parents. The claim expanded over time, reaching CAD$68 million in 2014. The Crispa Redmanizers–Toyota Tamaraws rivalry was the central power struggle of the young Philippine Basketball Association. From 1975 through 1983, the two clubs won 21 of the 26 championships available, repeatedly meeting in high-stakes finals and turning their players into national celebrities. Their roots reached back to the Manila Industrial Commercial Athletic Association, where Crispa had already battled the Meralco Reddy Kilowatts; after Meralco disbanded in 1972, many of its players helped form the Komatsu Komets, later renamed the Toyota Comets and eventually the Toyota Tamaraws. Crispa and Toyota first met for a championship in the 1974 MICAA All-Filipino tournament, where Crispa swept the series and secured the title with a 103–99 victory before roughly 14,000 spectators at the Araneta Coliseum on October 15, 1974.

The rivalry intensified immediately after the PBA was founded in 1975. The teams met in the finals of six straight conferences across the 1975 and 1976 seasons. Toyota won the first two championships in the league's inaugural season, but Crispa prevented a Toyota grand slam by taking the third-conference All-Philippine title in a five-game series. In 1976, Crispa answered emphatically, defeating Toyota in all three conferences and becoming the PBA's first grand-slam champion. They met again in the 1979 All-Filipino finals, won by Crispa, before Toyota finally gained another championship victory over its rival in the 1979 Invitational. Their last championship confrontation came in the 1981 Open Conference, when the Toyota Super Diesels defeated Crispa 103–97 in the decisive fifth game on July 25. Across their PBA meetings from 1975 to 1983, Crispa held a narrow 65–58 edge, and the clubs' final official game ended with a 111–96 Crispa victory on October 9, 1983. Toyota's franchise was sold in February 1984 and Crispa's followed in 1985, effectively ending the era. The personal tension surrounding stars Robert Jaworski and Ramon Fernandez became part of the rivalry's mythology; at the 1989 All-Star Game, Fernandez hit a winning shot off a Jaworski pass, and their later reunion-game exchange in 2003 was widely viewed as a symbolic public reconciliation. Toyota won that reunion 65–61, while the rivalry's enduring popularity helped establish the PBA as a major force in Philippine sports culture.
